Each year, we as Oldendorff, carry about 380 million tons of bulk and unitized cargo around the world. We perform 15,000 port calls in 118 countries. On average, we operate 700 chartered and owned ships at any one time. Essential Functions:

  • Coordination of vessels during its time in the port/s.

  • Gathering information on all new ports facilities and restriction guidelines.

  • Provide operational assistance for the vessel operators during the port call.

  • Develop commercial relationships with ports / port officials / terminals / etc.

  • Vessel Inspections for commercial / vetting / fleet / QSHE departments.

  • Negotiation of rates with stevedores, agents and other services needed in the port.

  • To work closely with each terminal’s management and stevedores, i.e. holding the pre-planning meetings, attending port meetings, etc.

  • Manage Cargo stowage and Cargo intake optimization.

  • Project assistance for chartering, cargo and port inspection.

  • Ensure all cargoes identified are safe for transportation in accordance with IMSBC and Dangerous Goods Code.

  • Arrange cleaning of equipment and/or gangs for cargo hold.

  • Manage storage and maintenance of own equipment.

  • AXS-Marine vessel data base update.

Skill Requirements:

  • Chief officer or ex-Master Mariner with a minimum of 3 years shore-based, relevant working experience.

  • A strong communicator, who has an interest in meeting people and is able to understand different cultures and way of working.

  • Possess the basic knowledge of loading, unloading and transportation of all kinds of cargo on seagoing ships.

  • Capable and willing to conduct search for suppliers, stevedores, agents, etc. and to negotiate for competitive rates.

  • Collate and compile all information from different sources into a report/spreadsheet to provide insights and understanding of all data, which will assist the management in their decision making.

  • A service-oriented individual and positive team player.

  • Must be physically fit to visit our ships at anchorage or ports in South-East Asia.

  • Required to be accustomed to the usual working hours in the shipping industry ranging simultaneously across various time zones.

  • Motivated and able to independently work after an introductory period of 3 months.

  • Demonstrate an open mind in new cargo handling solutions, methods in ports and have the ability to distinguish the difference between secure and unsafe methods and approaches.

  • Strong organizational skills (including IT skills) as well maintaining strong time-management skills, even under pressure and in time-sensitive situations.

  • Excellent in communication skills in Japanese and English language (both written and spoken).

  • Knowledge of additional regional local languages is an added advantage.
