This role reports to the Thermal Coal Desk Head, with the key deliverable of predicting short-term European power demand. You would work most closely with a team of coal analysts, who are leveraging on your power forecasts to make predictions of Atlantic coal market trade flows, as well as closely interacting with our freight analysts and the commercial chartering team.
Provide fundamental analysis of European power markets and develop models to predict power demand
Maintain dispatch and flow models, communicating fundamental developments and views to stakeholders
Analysis and dissection of European energy policy and its impact on fuel mix up to 5 years
Leads global renewables research, with the goal of quantifying potential impact to coal demand
Must have a degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or relevant field
Minimum 5 years of direct experience in Continental and European power markets and modelling
Understanding of key drivers to power maket and their impact on generation facility dispatch, retirements and new-builds.
Familiar with various public and third party proprietary datasets available for the power market
Deep understanding of Asian power market is a plus
Profound knowledge of Atlantic coal marketis a benefit
Proven track record of providing superior information resources and analytical work
Proactive, highly motivated, innovative, detail-oriented professional with ability to analyze data and predict trends
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to interact with senior management
Proficient in computer skills and analytical tool usage
Ability to multi-task & work in a fast-paced environment
Excellent team player
