“We recognise that clean oceans and clean air are vital for our survival, both as a company and as individuals. Since 2013, Oldendorff has invested USD 3 billion in 90 new eco vessels built in China, Korea and Japan, which have fuel-efficient and reduced greenhouse gas emissions engines, and a number of fuel saving devices to reduce consumption and carbon emissions. Today over 95% of the Oldendorff fleet, and most of our chartered vessels, are eco type vessels.“ Peter Twiss,CEO Oldendorff Carriers
Oldendorff Carriers continues to make a very significant investment in reducing our environmental impact and carbon footprint as much as possible. We have invested in exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS) on most of our large owned vessels because studies show using HFO & EGCS is currently the best way for ships to reduce their overall Greenhouse Gas emissions in well-to-wake studies.
Our investment in efficient engines, hull designs and exhaust gas cleaners are a pathway to our commitment towards Getting to Zero. Oldendorff Carriers will continue our investments in new efficiency technologies, operational techniques, alternative fuels and significant research & development in order to help lead the dry bulk shipping industry towards carbon neutrality and renewable energy.
Oldendorff Carriers’ commitment to the protection of the environment far exceeds the minimum regulatory requirements. For this reason this Environmental section of our website is currently being prepared in order to properly explain our commitment to improving the environment while preparing ourselves to achieve zero CO2 emissions before 2050.
Oldendorff has signed an agreement with CLIIN to deploy magnetic robots to reduce the amount of chemicals used to clean cargo holds. Safety is also improved as crews no longer need to use scrubbing equipment, often while suspended from rigging systems while holding high-powered pressure hoses.
Since 2014, the Trident Alliance has worked to build awareness of the need for robust and effective enforcement of marine sulphur regulations to protect public and environmental health, and maintain fair competition.
OLDENDORFF IS A FOUNDING MEMBER OF CLEAN SHIPPING ALLIANCE 2020
